IEC to Handle WTA Commonwealth Bank Tournament of Champions

Tennis - 17 Dec 2008

The Commonwealth Bank Tournament of Champions, the season ending finale for International tournaments has appointed IEC in Sports to exclusively represent the international broadcast media rights.

The event is set to take place in Bali, Indonesia from November 4-8 in 2009, will feature top Tour players competing in an innovative 15 match, round robin singles format. Twelve players will be aiming for $600,000 in prize money and an opportunity to earn a $1 million bonus.

Eligible players will be among the top 20 Sony Ericsson WTA Tour players who have won at least one International tournament during the year: who are not participating in singles at the year-end 8 player Sony Ericsson Championships, will qualify for the Bali event, along with two wild cards.

A player who wins three International tournaments and the season-ending Commonwealth Bank Tournament of Champions will take home an additional $1 million bonus on top of her prize money.

“The Commonwealth Tournament of Champions promises to be a fantastic year-end finale for the Tour’s International events. The event is a step up from the previous tier 111 WTA Bali, and was a favourite destination for the players.” said Kevin Livesey, Tournament Director”.

"We are delighted to be invited to distribute the season-ending Championships for the International Series” said Jonas Persson, CEO of IEC in Sports. “IEC already represents fifteen (15) International Series WTA events around the globe and we expect the inclusion of this event to further boost the popularity of women’s tennis amongst our broadcasters” added Persson.

The Tournament of Champions is set to take place in Bali for an initial period of 2009-2011, which runs parallel to IEC’s appointment.
