IMG Secures Premier League Rights for Spain
IMG Media, a division of IMG Worldwide, the sports, fashion and media company, is to exclusively market the Premier League's media rights in Spain and Andorra for the next three years.
IMG acquired the rights from the Premier League to the 2013/14, 2014/15 and 2015/16 seasons and is now in negotiations with prospective broadcasters to show live and highlights action from the Barclays Premier League, which kicks off on August 17.
Premier League Chief Executive, Richard Scudamore, said: “We are very pleased that IMG has invested in our broadcast rights for Spain and Andorra.
“We are confident they will make the best Barclays Premier League action available to our fans in both countries and look forward to working with them.”
Michael Mellor, Senior Vice President and Head of Football, IMG Media, said: "Spain is one of the key European territories for the Premier League so we are delighted to have bought the rights.
“There is immense interest in the Barclays Premier League among football fans in Spain who recognise the product as one of the most exciting leagues in the world, featuring some of the best players on the planet.”
IMG has also marketed Premier League rights for Japan, Vietnam and Mongolia in Asia and in the Balkan region, as well as securing the worldwide rights for in-ship and in-flight, including exploitation of the Premier League on Sport 24, its bespoke 24/7 sports channel for the airlines and cruise ships.
