Impuls AG Aquires Naming Rights to the New Arena in Augsburg

Soccer - 13 Jul 2007

FC Augsburg’s main sponsor to give its name to the ‘impuls arena’

Augsburg / 13th July 2007 – impuls Finanzmanagement AG, FC Augsburg’s new main sponsor, has secured the naming rights to the historic club’s new home ground as well. FC Augsburg will be able to play its first match in front of fans in the impuls arena during the 2009/2010 season. “It is a great honour for impuls AG to be the name-giver for the new arena in Augsburg,” declared Herbert Nißel, CEO of the market-leading broker for private health insurance policies. “The most important thing is that the impuls arena will do a great deal for FCA’s athletic ambitions and for Augsburg’s appeal as a city. This state-of-the-art facility will serve as a venue for other major events beyond football and will therefore become known far beyond regional borders – and hopefully be feared as a witches’ cauldron by FCA’s rivals,” he added.

FCA president Walther Seinsch and Augsburg’s governing mayor Paul Wengert had signed the contract for the construction of the new premium property a few days ago, clearing the way for the ground-breaking in October 2007.

“The impuls arena will give Augsburg a top-league playing ground for our team and our fans,” said Walther Seinsch, President of FC Augsburg.

The stadium will initially accommodate around 31,000 people (seats/standing room). In a second stage, its capacity could be extended to accommodate approximately 49,000.

The costs of the project are pegged at €45 million (1st stage) and €65 million (2nd stage). “We are delighted to have won as strong and reliable a partner as impuls AG,” beamed Seinsch. “The partnership will be fruitful for both parties – especially because impuls will be involved from the very laying of the cornerstone, and the collaboration was signed for the long term.”

The contract was initially signed for eight years. Beyond the naming rights, the sponsorship package brokered by SPORTFIVE also includes the use of a special arena logo, a comprehensive advertising presence at the stadium, and a double (VIP) box. The words impuls arena will be mounted on the stadium’s façade as a visible sign of the sponsorship.
