Individual Match Tickets on Sale November 9 for RWC 2007
The previous two phases of the ticketing programme have comprised ticket sales via a range of team and city packages.
The purchase of individual match tickets can be made without having to purchase travel and accommodation packages and prices start from €10. To purchase tickets to Rugby World Cup 2007 go to http://www.rugbyworldcup.com/.
“On September 2, just over one year to go, the one millionth ticket for Rugby World Cup 2007 was sold by the France 2007 Organising Committee. This was a wonderful achievement given that the first two phases of the sales programme centred on the sale of tickets as fixed team and city packages”, said IRB and Rugby World Cup Chairman, Dr Syd Millar.
“On November 9 phase three of the ticketing programme will be launched online by the Organising Committee when tickets for individual matches will be offered for sale via the internet.”
“This will include tickets for all 40 pool matches and the first allocation of tickets for the quarter-finals and Bronze Final match (third and fourth play-off). The ballot and last phase of single ticket sales for the semi-finals and Final is planned for April 2007.”
“The announcement that the one millionth ticket had already been sold in September is a strong endorsement of the Committee’s ticket sales programme that to date has offered affordable city and team packages to the public worldwide via the Internet,” added Dr Syd Millar.
There have been a number of processes applied to ensure compliance with French and European competition law to ensure a significant number of single tickets are available for both remaining phases. The result is that 550,000 tickets will be made available to the global general public in Phase 3.
The Rugby World Cup Board expects significant demand for individual match tickets from fans around the world on November 9 as excitement is building up already for what we know will be a truly memorable Tournament.
The overall success of the event depends largely on a policy of reasonable pricing which acknowledges the prestigious nature of the event while keeping it affordable. At the outset the price policy has been designed around two factors: classifying pool matches into price levels based on appeal, and seating in different categories.
Pool matches are ranked on the teams involved in the games, their history and their reputation. Prices are then determined according to the position of the seat in the ground. Five seat categories based on the view and closeness to the pitch have been defined. A large range of prices is available to suit all budgets and prices for individual match tickets start at €10 for a green category ticket.
For those rugby supporters preferring to secure travel and accommodation as part of their ticket package purchase this can be done via the official RWC 2007 international travel programme. It is being managed by Rugby Travel & Hospitality 2007 Ltd (http://www.rth07.com/)- the Tournament’s official travel and hospitality providers.
“The interest in tickets for Rugby World Cup 2007 is building significantly and supporters obtaining tickets from unofficial sources should be aware that they run the risk of having those tickets cancelled, being refused entry or being rejected from the stadium. Therefore rugby supporters should only purchase tickets, and travel and hospitality packages from official sources such as the official ticketing website or authorised travel and hospitality agents.”
”RWC 2007 in France will offer an irresistible mix of world class Rugby and the unique, colourful regional experiences that only France can offer. The teams and the substantial numbers of travelling supporters can look forward to world class venues and wonderful hospitality from the cities.”
“It will be an event not to be missed and the IRB looks forward to welcoming rugby supporters from France and all over the world to Rugby World Cup 2007,” added Dr Millar.
