International Hockey Approves Three New National Associations

Field hockey - 09 Dec 2002

Brazil, Dominican Republic and Turkey were all approved as new members of the International Hockey Federation (FIH) at its congress at the MeadowLea World Cup in Perth, this week.

FIH Hon Secretary General, Peter Cohen commented, 'FIH now has 114 national associations throughout the world. I’m delighted that the global development of hockey globally continues and I’d like to welcome the new associations to the FIH.'

Brig Atif Member of Honour

Brigadier Atif was appointed member of honour of the FIH at the congress. Atif has vast experience of the game both as a player, coach and as an administrator.

After retirement from international hockey in 1964, he continued his association with the game, holding many responsible positions, both at national and international levels.

He first represented Pakistan Hockey Federation in the FIH in 1966 and in 1968 was elected the council member of the world hockey body and elected vice-president in 1982. Since 1994, Atif has been a member of the Executive Board of FIH.

Elections

Peter Cohen (AUS) and Tony von Ondarza (VEN) have been reelected as Hon Secretary General and Vice President of the FIH, respectively. Douglas Grey (IRL), was elected as Hon Treasurer. Brig. Musarrat Ullah Khan (PAK) and Aaron Sher (USA) were newly elected to the Executive Board, with Claire Peeters-Monseu (BEL), Theo Ykema (NED) and Bark-Jae Shin (KOR) re-elected. All elections run for a period of four years.
