Irish Dairy Board Signed up as Another Major Sponsor for Punchestown
Punchestown Racecourse has secured another major sponsor for its four - day Irish National Hunt Festival in April. The highlight of the opening day of the Irish National Hunt Festival, the €180,000 Grade 1 Two Mile Champion Chase is to be sponsored by the Irish Dairy Board and will be known as The Kerrygold Champion Chase (Grade 1).
Formerly sponsored by BMW and Betdaq, the Kerrygold Champion Chase has increased €30,000 in value this year. This is sure to add even more spice to a race that has been won in the past by champions such as Moscow Flyer, Flagship Uberalles and Klairon Davies. The Kerrygold Champion Chase will take place on Tuesday, April 26th and will be the feature race on a card worth in excess of €470,000.
Commenting on the new sponsorship Dick O’ Sullivan, General Manager of Punchestown, said 'it is very exciting news that The Irish Dairy Board have come on board to sponsor the Kerrygold Champion Chase. It has always been a race which attracts the crème de la crème of two - mile chasers and with its new sponsor and increased prize fund, it is certain to continue to do so. We are also delighted to welcome Kerrygold as the title sponsor of the opening day of our €2 million festival and I am confident that both businesses and brand profiles will benefit enormously from the association'.
IDB managing director Noel Cawley, said the organisation was delighted to be associated with this showcase of national hunt racing at one of Europe's top racecourses. 'Kerrygold has a long tradition of involvement with equestrianism, both nationally & internationally, and we are pleased to associate our international brand with the very best of Irish horse racing'. Irish dairy farmers will also benefit from the sponsorship. A 50% discount on admission to Punchestown will be available for Kerrygold Day (26th April 2005) and, with the cooperation of their dairy companies, farmers will receive special discount tickets in their March milk cheques.'
The new sponsorship was especially good news for Jessica Harrington, trainer of Moscow Flyer, who said 'Kerrygold’s sponsorship and the increased prize fund for Champion Chase at Punchestown will make it an even more attractive race for two mile chasers from both here and the UK. It is great news for racing and the only downfall is that it may make my task of trying to win the race again with Moscow Flyer a bit more difficult!'
The Irish National Hunt Festival at Punchestown will run from Tuesday, April 26 to Friday, April 29 2005.
