Officer Elections, Addition of Iraq, Awarding of Championship Site Highlight Meetings
The election of Jelena Cusak, an athlete from Croatia, to the International Softball Federation (ISF) Executive Council, highlighted the results of the voting and other significant business accomplished at the just-concluded XXII ISF Congress in Kaohsiung, Taiwan.
Cusak (formerly Jelena Tomic) was previously an At-Large member of the ISF Executive Council until her election as one of two ISF VPs/Europe on Sunday. Also the Secretary General of the Croatian Softball Association, Cusak served at the Congress on the ISF Athletes Commission as well.
The Congress also saw the ISF’s global reach expand to 127 countries with the confirmation of Iraq as the world governing body’s newest member federation.
In addition, the site of the ISF’s XII Men’s World Championship (2009) was awarded to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan (Canada).
Several individuals were also honored throughout the October 27-31 Congress. During the Opening Ceremonies, Mr. Masato Mizuno, the president of Mizuno Sports, became only the ninth recipient of the ISF Medal of Honor.
And, the newest class was chosen for the ISF Hall of Fame. The group – athletes, umpires, administrators, and coaches – represents nine different countries, spanning the Americas, Asia, Europe, and Oceania. The Congress also heard a presentation from Tainan City (Taiwan), which will host next year’s II World University Softball Championship (July 15-23). This past March softball (women’s fast pitch) was added to the program of the 2007 World University Games, which will be held in Bangkok.
