Joint Bid by Poland and Denmark to Host the 2013 Men’s European Volleyball Championships
March 19, 2010 – Today, the Polish and Danish Volleyball Federations officially announced their unified bid for the 2013 Men’s European Volleyball Championships. Their vision – A Partnership for European Volleyball - will be an opportunity to develop the sport and create a Volleyball Championship for all of Europe to enjoy.
With strong support from partners within each of their respective Volleyball communities, host cities and their national governments, both federations are focused and committed to preparing a strong campaign to grow volleyball nationally and across Europe.
Mr. Miroslaw Przedpelski, President of the Polish Volleyball Federation, said: “This is a unique opportunity to build upon our partnership with our northern neighbours and all countries throughout Europe. We are passionate about Volleyball and want not only to develop our sport in new markets but also to host an event which will welcome all of Europe. Our cities will transform, creating a festive sporting atmosphere welcoming all Europeans to experience a great volleyball celebration.”
Mr. Erik Jacobsen, President of the Danish Volleyball Federation, said: “We are ready to host this event. The transfer of knowledge and know-how both with regards to development and practical experience within our federations will ensure that we will create a wonderful experience for all participants and supporters alike. As our first joint bid we look forward to working with Poland and learning from their Volleyball experience.’’
The joint Polish-Danish bid will see two preliminary groups and playoff rounds being played in each country with the semi-finals and final in Copenhagen, Denmark. The bid is coordinated by Sport Event Denmark, the Danish national sports event organisation with support from international sports consultancy TSE Consulting.
The decision for the host the 2013 Men’s European Volleyball Championships will be made by the European Volleyball Confederation (CEV) in October, 2010, where the CEV Board of Administration will decide by secret vote.
