Jordan Olympic Committee Head to Join Asian Games Committee
April 20th ,2004- Sheikh Ahmed Al Fahad, President, Olympic Council of Asia (OCA)nominated Eng. Abdulghani Tabblat, General Secretary, Jordan Olympic Committee (JOC) as one of five members on the OCA Evaluation Committee, who will play a key role in deciding the venue for the 2010 Asian Games.
Only two members of the Evaluation Committee are from the Middle East Region, one of which is Eng. Tabbalat, who was chosen due to his contribution and participation as a member of the Coordination Committee for Doha 2006 Asian Games which aided him in securing the confidence of the OCA, it’s President and its Director General, Mr. Mutaleb Ahmad. His role is viewed by many as vital considering his credentials as a highly experienced architect, specialized in designing sports facilities. He also brings over 30 years of sporting experience, since his early days as an athlete.
The Evaluation Committee’s role is to visit cities bidding for Asia’s biggest sporting event in 2010, to evaluate their capabilities and report back to the OCAes. The committee has just completed the visits to Kuala Lumpur and Guangzhou, after which Kula Lumpur withdrew its candidature. The final decision will be taken in Doha during the OCA General Assembly meeting July 1st 2004.
'It is an honor that the OCA nominated Eng. Tabbalat for such a committee and the benefits are numerous for the JOC as well as Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan,' said HRH Prince Feisal Bin Al Hussein, Chairman, JOC, 'It reflects on the caliber of people responsible for sport in the kingdom, which have the expertise required to be active within the OCA family and benefit the Olympic movement over all in the region. In addition, such an experience will aid us in our bid to host the 2014 Asian Games.'
