Karate Raises Membership Issues with GAISF

Karate - 26 May 2004

Report from 38th GAISF General Assembly, 20th of May 25004.
When the point 11 of the Agenda (Membership) was taken, the WKF representative raised some concerns to the
Chairman of GAISF and the Council on the lack of information received by the members on the applications for
membership, as well as on concerns of duplicity between sports members of GAISF and the sports candidating, mainly
but not only the World Association of Kickboxing
Organisations (WAKO) and the World Martial Arts Foundation (WOMAF).

WKF proposed to postpone the voting for a next General Assembly after all members receiving the information necessary and with the time necessary as per GAISF
statutes and bylaws.

After a break for consultation, between Council members, the GAISF Chairman proposed to the General Assembly to vote if the meeting would proceed with the consideration of the candidatures for membership, based on the urgency of the matter (article 3.3.6 of GAISF bylaws).

The proposal was not accepted by the delegates and was subsequently delayed for next year, in case of submitted again for consideration of General Assembly by the
Council.

Also the GAISF Chairman informed that he would take the measures necessary to avoid the circulation of different agendas, as it had been the fact between those circulated on May 15th and May 20th (tabled at the General Assembly).

Some members of the GAISF Council expressed their concern on the high number of existing martial arts, that in our
opinion will be solved with a proper feedback as well as the identification of the various cases existing, as is the IFs recognised by IOC as fully representative of the sport they represent worldwide, making a clear difference with these and other cases and in no way putting all in the
same basket.
