KarstadtQuelle Becomes 2006 Fifa World Cup Licensee
FIFA has named the German company KarstadtQuelle as a Licensee for the 2006 FIFA World Cup. KarstadtQuelle will act on behalf of FIFA's Licensing Representative EM.TV as an on-site concessionaire and operator of the official FIFA World Cup retail stores.
The agreement with KarstadtQuelle also includes the right to produce Official Licensed Products for the event.
As part of the agreement, KarstadtQuelle will place over 300 department stores across Germany at FIFA's disposal before and during the 2006 FIFA World Cup.
A wide range of event-related merchandise in a variety of FIFA World Cup themes will be available at sales points in KarstadtQuelle stores, allowing football fans to purchase merchandise ahead of the event.
KarstadtQuelle is an institution in German life, and this agreement enables FIFA to reach out to football fans the length and breadth of the host country, offering them even greater opportunity to indulge their passion for the FIFA World Cup. By way of comparison, there were only 12 Official Stores in Korea and Japan during the 2002 FIFA World Cup.
'Merchandise products can build a bridge between the event and the fans, as they give football supporters the opportunity to identify with the FIFA World Cup(tm). In addition, the products are an important promotional tool for the event,' said FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter. 'With KarstadtQuelle, we are sure to be able to satisfy the needs of the fans.'
