Ladbrokes.com PDC World Championship Gets Dutch TV Coverage
In a first for British darts and the PDC, Dutch television company RTL will be on site at the Circus Tavern for this year’s Ladbrokes.com PDC World Championship to cover the tournament in its entirety.
RTL will take a live feed from Sky Sports and bring a full Dutch commentary team to Purfleet in order take the very best darts into 98% of TV households in Holland.
Darts is hugely popular in the Netherlands with millions of players currently active in the sport.
The move, initially for one year, ensures that one of the biggest darting nations has an opportunity to watch the elite professionals in action and is part of the PDC’s commitment to take the organisation’s players to a worldwide audience.
The partnership between the PDC and RTL is the first stage towards establishing a European Championship in 2003 under the leadership of the PDC team.
PDC Chairman Barry Hearn commented:
'This collaboration is a statement of intent on the part of RTL that PDC darts are the future of the sport.
'It is also another step in our quest to establish a world circuit for the sport that began this year with the Las Vegas Desert Classic.
'I’m hopeful our collaboration with RTL will go on well in to the future and we’re looking forward to welcoming the whole team to The Circus Tavern.'
IMPORTANT NOTE: AS A RESULT OF THE DEAL BETWEEN THE PDC AND RTL WE ARE DELIGHTED TO ANNOUCE THAT ONE OF THE FOUR WILD CARD PLACES AT THE LADBROKES WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP WILL GO A DUTCH DARTS PLAYER – A FURTHER ANNOUCEMENT WILL BE MADE SHORTLY
