Ladies Scottish Open Returns to Ladies European Tour

Golf - 09 Oct 2006

The Ladies Scottish Open will make a welcome return to the Ladies European Tour (LET) schedule in 2007 after an absence of some 11 years, it was announced today by EventScotland, De Vere, The LET and Tournament Promoters, WSM Ltd.

The €200,000 De Vere Ladies Scottish Open will be hosted at the luxury De Vere Cameron House resort from 20th – 22nd September 2007 and the 54-hole strokeplay tournament staged over the spectacular Carrick on Loch Lomond – Scotland’s most exciting new golf course.

Paul Bush, Deputy Chief Executive of EventScotland, said: “The De Vere Ladies Scottish Open presents a valuable opportunity to showcase one of Scotland’s finest new courses to a global audience. This event has been conceived as a direct result of our joint bid with De Vere for The 2011 Solheim Cup, and demonstrates our commitment to ensuring Scotland remains not just ‘The Home of Golf’, but also the home of world class golf events.

“Golf forms a crucial part of our events strategy and EventScotland’s support of the De Vere Ladies Scottish Open further underlines our commitment to Scottish golf events in the run up to the 2014 Ryder Cup, and beyond. We look forward to working with De Vere, The Ladies European Tour and our event partners to deliver yet another world-class golf tournament for Scotland.”

Joe Longmuir, General Manager at De Vere Cameron House Hotel, said: “In De Vere Cameron House and The Carrick on Loch Lomond we have developed a world-class venue capable of staging world-class events. The De Vere Ladies Scottish Open presents an ideal platform for us to showcase the resort to a large global audience.

“A challenging but fair test of golf with breathtaking views across Loch Lomond National Park, Ben Lomond and the Luss Hills, we are confident that the Ladies European Tour will find The Carrick a very welcome addition to the 2007 calendar.”

Alexandra Armas, Executive Director of the Ladies European Tour, said: “I am delighted that the Ladies European Tour will be making a return to Scotland next season for the 2007 De Vere Ladies Scottish Open.

“This is an exciting new event for the Tour and one that I know will be very well received by the players, the media and Scottish golf fans alike.

“We look forward to working with Event Scotland, De Vere Cameron House and WSM to make this an event that Scottish golf can be proud of,” she added.

Andrew White, WSM’s Chief Executive, said: “As the ‘Home of Golf’ we are delighted that the Ladies European Tour will be returning to Scotland next year.

“The event will provide a unique platform for brands to engage with target audiences at the exclusive De Vere Cameron House golf resort.

“We are confident of delivering an event befitting the stature of De Vere Cameron House and have no doubt that the LET members will relish the opportunity to take part in this exciting new addition to the Tour schedule.”

Minister for Tourism, Culture and Sport, Patricia Ferguson, said: “Attracting this tournament is a real coup for Scotland. It helps promote the country as a world-class venue and an ideal host for major golfing events.

“Scotland is the home of golf, boasting some of the world's finest courses which deliver the most authentic and diverse golfing experiences in the world.

“I want Scotland to be a must-visit destination for the world's golfers, their friends and families and I look forward to welcoming the Ladies European Tour to Scotland next year.”

VisitScotland's Chief Executive, Philip Riddle, said: "As Scotland is the home of golf, hosting such a major event in the ladies golf calendar helps to reinforce what we have to offer golfers from around the world. We have many of the world's best golf courses, with fantastic facilities in some breathtaking locations. Golf is a key part of Scotland's tourism industry, and major events like this are invaluable in helping us to grow this important market even further."

The 2007 De Vere Ladies Scottish Open has received valuable financial support from EventScotland - the body responsible for attracting major sporting events to Scotland – and De Vere Hotels & Resorts.  The event will be promoted by sponsorship and events agency, WSM Ltd.

The De Vere Ladies Scottish Open will be the first major tournament to take place over the newly developed Carrick on Loch Lomond following the course’s completion in early 2007.

The Scottish Open has featured on the Ladies European Tour schedule on five previous occasions, the last of which was at Dalmahoy back in 1995.  The intervening years have seen the Ladies European Tour visit Scotland for the WPGA Championship of Europe, which was staged at Gleneagles from 1996-1999 and the WPGA International Matchplay, which also took place at Gleneagles in 2001.

In addition to EventScotland and De Vere, this event is being supported by VisitScotland, Scottish Enterprise and Glasgow City Marketing Bureau, as part of the bid partnership for The 2011 Solheim Cup.
