London, Ontario to Host 2006 Lacrosse Championships
International Lacrosse Federation President Tom Hayes announced that London, Ontario, Canada has been designated as the site for the 2006 ILF Championships.
The ninth ILF Senior Championships will be conducted in late June and/or early July of 2006. A new tournament format will be announced in 2003 due to the expansion of international lacrosse over the past 10 years. Consequently, the ILF expects more than 20 countries to be involved in 2006.
The ILF will return to Canada for the first time since 1986 (Toronto), and will conduct field lacrosse world championships on Canadian soil for the third time.
The first world championship tournament was also staged in Toronto in 1967. The 2002 Championships were hosted
by Australia this past summer with the USA winning their seventh ILF Senior Title.
