Men's Volleyball Olympic Qualification: Egypt qualifies for Sydney 2000, Tunisia to play World Qualification in July
The men's Volleyball national team of Egypt has in principle clinched the direct qualification for Sydney 2000 Olympic Games by winning the African Qualification tournament in Cairo. In the
Final match yesterday (Jan. 30), The home team defeated African Champion
Tunisia 3 sets to 1 (25-17, 25-21, 17-25, 25-15).
Tunisia will take part in one of the FIVB World Qualification Tournaments to be held in July (21-23: Portugal; 24-26: Greece; 25-27: France). The draw to determine groups compositions will be held in Porto, Portugal on 25 February.
The result of the final match on Sunday between the two so far unbeaten teams Egypt and Tunisia, is reported by the CAVB (African Volleyball Confederation) subject to study as the game was disturbed by important incidents implicating players, referees and public. A final decision will be made soon.
In the meantime, the FIVB is considering the interdiction of Egypt as organizer of International competitions including African events.
