National Football League And Sports Marketing Japan To Provide Mobile Phone Users In Japan With Daily Video Highlights

NEW YORK AND TOKYO, JUNE 14, 2006 - The National Football League (NFL) and Sports Marketing Japan (SMJ) will provide American Football fans in Japan with daily video highlights and interview footage on their mobile phones. This marks the first time NFL highlights will be available to wireless phones in Asia, the NFL and SMJ announced today.

The NFL will continue to engage its growing Asian fan base by providing video highlights beginning with the start of the 2006 NFL season on September 7 for users of all three major mobile phone carriers. Highlights will continue throughout the season and will also include footage from SUPER BOWL and Legend archives. In addition to updated video footage, fans will receive NFL news, scores, special columns, and information about Japanese football players. Fans from all teams will also be able to decorate their screen with NFL wallpaper and use NFL-related ring-tones.

Founded in 1920, the National Football League is America's most popular sport.Comprised of 32 teams that compete each year to win the Super Bowl, the league generates annual revenues in excess of $6 billion (?). The Super Bowl is annually the most-watched show on television in the U.S., last year drawing 141 million viewers. Moreover, the NFL is often cited as the model operation for the modern sports league with extensive revenue sharing, competitive excellence, successful franchises across the board, and national television distribution. “Business Week" magazine calls the NFL "one of America's best-run businesses."
