National Governing Body Announces Rebrand

Squash - 13 Feb 2009

Sport governing body England Squash has officially rebranded to England Squash & Racketball to represent its role in the development and promotion of both sports.

Its new logo is a contemporary take on the rose of England and is designed to capture the movement, energy and dynamism of both squash and racketball.

Squash continues to be one of the most popular sports in England with nearly half a million people playing regularly, and English players dominating on the international stage.

Racketball, a similar game to squash, has become a popular sport in recent years and has helped to reinvigorate interest in both sports.

It is played on the same court but using a slightly different racket and a softer, bouncier ball. The slower movement of the ball means racketball has become a popular introductory sport, ideal for those who have never picked up a racket and want a good workout or ex-squash players looking to get back on court.

The new identity will be supported by a marketing campaign and a new interactive website, which is currently being developed with the aim of increasing participation and profile.

Nick Rider, chief executive for England Squash & Racketball, said: “Squash has always been a popular sport- we are fortunate to have both a large number of regular players and extremely successful elite athletes on the international stage.

“Racketball is a newer sport and we’ve seen it revitalise demand for courts at existing squash clubs and leisure facilities.

“Therefore, we felt a new modern and vibrant identity was needed to represent the core values of both sports.

“Squash is shortlisted to become an Olympic discipline in 2016 and racketball continues to attract new players so the future of both sports is very positive indeed.”
