Nations Cup Minigolf Tournaments in Germany, Portugal and Belgium

Business - 30 May 2012

Germany win all three International Minigolf Championships in Youth, Adult and Senior Classes

Over the weekend of the 26th and 27th May three international Minigolf championships took place, with the Nations Cup being contested in Youth, Adult and Senior player categories in Germany, Portugal and Belgium. The Nations Cup events are traditional tournaments held prior to European and World Championships. The weekend saw a clean-sweep of victories for Germany.

The WMF Youth Nations Cup was held in Bad Münder, Germany and was organised by the World Minigolf Sport Federation. Eight teams from five countries competed and the contest saw an all-German podium with Germany 1 winning, Germany 3 the runners-up and Germany 2 in third place having defeated Sweden in the play-off match. A total of 31 players from seven nations competed in the tournament. The top individual players were Germany’s Philip Lau in the boy’s rankings and 13-year-old Maike Haupt in the girl’s rankings. Four players scored near perfect rounds of 19(-17) in the event.

The Nations Cup and Seniors Nations Cup were organised by the European Minigolf Sport Federation. 43 players from eight countries took part in the EMF Nations Cup tournament held at the Clube de Minigolfe do Porto. The team contest saw ten teams from seven nations compete, with Germany defeating Austria in the final. Portugal defeated 2011 Nations Cup Champions Sweden in the match for third place. The top individual players were Germany’s Martin Stöckle and Anne Bollrich. Peter Eisenschmidt of Sweden scored the tournament's only perfect round of 18 in the second round of the contest. Two players scored rounds 19(-17) during the competition.

The EMF Seniors Nations Cup was played at Minigolfclub Rozemaai in Rozemaai, Belgium. 51 players from nine countries competed. The 11-team event was won by Germany with Sweden runners-up. The Czech Republic was third. Austria's Reinhard Schuster was the top individual player, followed by Peter Nordin of Sweden and Jaroslav Rehak of the Czech Republic. A total of eight players scored rounds of 19(-17) during the competition.

The World Minigolf Sport Federation’s international championships calendar for 2012 will see Minigolf tournaments taking place in Great Britain, Portugal, Germany, Russia, Kosovo, Belgium and Thailand during the season. Germany were successful in defending the WMF World Adventure Golf Masters title in Hastings, England at the first international championship of the season.

The WMF is the umbrella organisation of Minigolf sports association's worldwide and continental associations in Asia, Europe and America. The WMF is a member of SportAccord, the General Association of International Sports Federations. The WMF organises biannual world championships for youth and elite players, as well as biannual Continental Championships in Europe, Asia and the USA. There are four minigolf systems recognised by the WMF; Concrete, Miniaturegolf, Feltgolf and Minigolf Open Standard (MOS).
