New Commercial Team to Take Snooker Forward
The World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association Limited (WPBSA) today confirmed the appointment of World Snooker Enterprises (WSE) as its new commercial management team.
This announcement ends several months of speculation and follows a comprehensive tendering process presented to WPBSA members and overseen by Deloitte & Touche and TLT Solicitors.
Richard Davies, a director of WSE, said 'I would like to thank the WPBSA for conducting a fair and transparent bidding process and for giving us the opportunity to take the sport forward.
'Our personnel have an extensive track record of creating successful commercial partnerships for various sports and we are looking forward to doing the same for snooker.
'We have a vested interest in making sure that snooker has a strong commercial future. We will work tirelessly to make this happen, starting with some positive developments, which we will be announcing over the coming weeks and months.'
A spokesman for the WPBSA said: 'The premise of the winning bid was that the sport remains under the ownership of its members, although the management and commercial affairs will be conducted by the new team.
'This is, in our view, the best solution for the future of the sport and our members. We are pleased that this period of uncertainty has now ended and that the sport can progress to the successful future that the players deserve.'
