New Media & Technology Focus at Soccerex 2007

Business - 24 Jul 2007

The announcement that almost £180million will be spent on Information & Communication Technology by South Africa, in preparation for the World Cup, signifies how essential state-of-the-art equipment has become to the beautiful game.

The advancements in new media & technology have opened up new opportunities for the football industry, however the debate continues as to how the potential can be effectively and legally harnessed. The conference programme for Soccerex 2007 will purposely include panels that will address the contentious issues raised by these developments, including the exploitation of Intellectual Property rights, the ‘YouTube’ effect, the value of online streaming and the growth of Club-owned media channels.

One of the industry leaders in technology, Red Bee Media, will be demonstrating their abilities to create innovative content at their exhibition stand at Soccerex 2007. Red Bee Media is a business with a prosperous broadcast heritage. They store, manage and deliver digital content for television, PC and mobile platforms and have been turning content into rich viewing experiences for 40 years.

Andy Townsend, Design Systems Manager, Red Bee Media explains, “We can help sport clubs and federations put their content to work, using modern media technologies and become ‘broadcasters’ in their own right. This gives loyal fans and subscribers extra insight and up to the minute news.”

Piero, a 3D sports graphic system, designed to enhance and analyse sport on TV, web and mobile will also be showcased at this years Soccerex. Piero enables viewers to see play from angles that cannot be captured by conventional cameras, and it is ideal for better storytelling and virtual advertising.

The central role that Technology and New Media now play to football has resulted in tremendous growth in this industry sub-sector, with businesses clamouring for new products & services that will enable them to maximize these new opportunities.
