NFL and NFL Europe League television deal agreed with Dutch broadcaster FOX 8
DUTCH terrestrial television channel FOX 8 has agreed a two-year deal with the NFL and the Amsterdam Admirals of the NFL Europe League to provide extensive American football coverage, kicking off on the NFL opening weekend of Sunday, September 12.
In one of the most extensive television deals ever signed in Europe, FOX 8 will air complete games every Sunday evening throughout the NFL season, which runs from September 12 and culminates in Super Bowl XXXIV live from Atlanta, Georgia on January 30. The agreement marks the first time that NFL Football has been available live on a terrestrial Dutch channel.
In addition to regular games and the postseason playoffs being shown in a live and tape delayed format, FOX 8 will also broadcast the Super Bowl, the showpiece of the NFL season, joining an annual worldwide audience of 800 million viewers.
When the NFL Europe League season commences in April, FOX 8 will chart the progress of the Amsterdam Admirals by showing extensive Admirals action during their ten-week season.
Admirals General Manager RONALD BUYS is enthusiastic about the deal and said: 'This is a major step forward for FOX 8, the NFL and the Admirals. Every Dutchman will now get an opportunity to experience American football from his living room.'
Buys, who enjoyed a successful amateur playing career, believes the agreement will contribute to the development of the sport in the Netherlands and added: 'I hope this will encourage a lot of youngsters to join an amateur team and try the great sport of American football for themselves.'
