Offshore Sport Promotion Takes Exclusive Rights For UIM Class 1 World Offshore Championship2000 Powerboating Season
Licensed by the UIM, the world governing body for the sport of powerboat racing, Offshore Sport Promotion (OSP) now holds the exclusive rights for the event management, promotion, marketing and television production and distribution of the UIM Class 1 World Offshore Championship.
The official television rights will no longer be distributed by Fox Sport International and will be directed by OSP in-house personnel. The new TV brand will be called 'Class 1 TV' (13x30min).
Class 1 is the most spectacular televised powerboat racing championship in the world. This global sport combines international teams with glamorous locations and an average of 150,000 spectators at events.
The powerboats are up to 45 feet in length, weigh approximately 5 tonnes and reach speeds of up to 250 km/hr. Each catamaran has a highly skilled crew of two - a throttleman and a driver - strapped into F-16 style fighter cockpits. For the pilots, risk is a fact of life.
The sport began life in America in the fifties. Now countries such as the USA, Norway, United Arab Emirates, Australia, France, Italy, Turkey, Bulgaria and the UK provide competitors each year. In 2000, international Class 1 teams will compete for the World Championship over nine races in five countries.
The 2000 Calendar is as follows:
28 May, European Grand Prix - Trieste, Italy
11 June, Italian Grand Prix - Anzio, Italy
9 July, German Grand Prix - Kiel, Germany
16 July, Norwegian Grand Prix - Arendal, Norway

We will use the most advanced technologies to move the sport forward in areas such as television and new media applications to ensure that the professionalism, glamour and excitement of Class 1 are reflected.'
