Paul McGinley Will Lead Tributes to Seve Ballesteros at Star-studded Celebration of His Life

Golf - 14 Nov 2011

Ryder Cup legend Paul McGinley will pay tribute to his beloved team mate at a star-studded evening in aid of the Seve Ballesteros Foundation in partnership with Cancer Research UK.

The annual flagship event Viva La Vida will be held at the Natural History Museum, London on December 14th 2011 to mark the end of the 2011 golfing season and help raise vital funds for brain cancer research.

‘Viva la Vida’ which translates as ‘Live the life’ will be a celebration and commemoration of Seve Ballesteros and the legacy he left behind. Unseen footage of Seve will be screened for the first time and some of Seve’s friends will provide moving insights into his life and career.

The event will also include top entertainment, fine dining, a money-can’t-buy auction and will be attended by top personalities from the world of sport, music and screen.

Paul McGinley, an ambassador for Viva La Vida and Seve’s team mate for 15 years, said:

“Seve was an inspirational man both on and off the golf course. I am truly honoured to be an ambassador for his official tribute event, Viva la Vida, which will help raise money for Seve’s Foundation in aid of Cancer Research UK.

“He more than anybody was responsible for bringing me to the game. I remember fondly my days at the Irish Open as a kid where to me Seve was the only attraction! Particularly driving the par four 16th off his knees in practice.

“I’ll always remember Seve for his compassion, personality and dedication and am looking forward to honouring and celebrating his unforgettable career and life through this fantastic event.”

In 2009, Seve Ballesteros set up his Foundation in partnership with Cancer Research UK with the aim of being the biggest funder of brain cancer research in the UK. The Foundation has already raised more than £1.5 million towards ambitious and vital research. This event marks the continuation of Seve’s legacy and his fight to find a cure for brain cancer.

Ivan Ballesteros, Seve’s nephew and manager, said:

“Seve’s determination to help others through his Foundation has been truly inspirational. By attending Viva la Vida you will not only experience unique insights into Seve’s life, you’ll also be helping keep his legacy alive by funding vital research into brain cancer.”
