Pool Showcase and The World Games 2009 Promotion in Singapore
(Kaohsiung/Singapore) On 19 April 2009, Kaohsiung Organizing Committee Managing Director Ms. Shyh-Fang Liu, Director of Marketing & PR Department Ms. Ming-Chuan Hsu, and the new director of the Taipei Representative Office in Singapore Ms. Vanessa Shih attended a press conference at the Raffles City Shopping Centre in Singapore.
As warm-up to this press conference, the two top Pool players from Chinese Taipei Yang Ching Shun, currently the world No. 41 and Cerie Chang, currently Women's world No. 9, took part in a showcase of their skills against local Singaporean pool champions Bernerd Tey and Charlene Chai.
The two players were appointed as spokesman/ -woman of The World Games 2009 , which will be held from July 16-26 in Kaohsiung, Taiwan.
Nicknamed the “Son of Pool”, Yang has been one of the most popular pool players in Chinese-speaking countries and won the gold medal at 2001 World Games in Akita. Both Yang and Chang will be representing Chinese Taipei at the coming TWG 2009 for the 9-Ball competition and hope to keep the gold medal in the home country.
The exhibition matches against local Singaporean pool players were part of the international promotion series planed by the organizing committee in cooperation with ESPN. The next stop for TWG 2009 international promotion event will be in Shanghai.
