Calabasas, California – The Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) the world’s largest rodeo organization and HorseTV Media Group, the multi-media company launching The Horse Channel on cable and satellite later this fall, today announced the creation of a strategic alliance that will provide horse enthusiasts, rodeo fans and the Western industry a Western-lifestyle programming block on the new television network.
The strategic alliance will explore the many ways and potential benefits of an expanded television presence for the PRCA and how together each company could benefit from providing a unified message about the Western industry and the people who live the Western lifestyle. Possible aspects of this joint venture include programming blocks featuring PRCA sanctioned rodeos, such as 12 PRCA circuit finals rodeos and the Dodge National Circuit Finals, as well as magazine format and instructional type programming that focuses on the top cowboys and animal athletes, including today’s heroes and the legends of the past. The programming would highlight the culture of the rodeo cowboy, which represents the pinnacle of the Western lifestyle.
“Bringing the various disciplines of the equestrian world together under one umbrella and having a network like The Horse Channel, dedicated to the Western industry, seems like a win-win for everyone,” said Troy Ellerman, PRCA commissioner. “As we move forward we will explore all of our options with the intent of branding the PRCA and the Western lifestyle that comes with being a rodeo cowboy.”
The PRCA sanctions nearly 700 rodeos nationwide, offers annual prize money exceeding $35 million and is the world’s premier organization providing contestants, livestock and support personnel as well as marketing, sponsorship and communication services necessary to present the best and most profitable rodeo possible.
HorseTV Media Group recently announced The Horse Channel, which will provide viewers of all ages with a variety of programming focused on horses and horse-related events, competitions, stories, recreation and the lifestyles that are shared with horses. The first channel dedicated to horses will become available 24 hours-a-day this fall as the all-encompassing destination for entertainment and information involving horses.
“This alliance will enable us to highlight the values of today’s cowboy and their relevance in our modern society. The Western lifestyle is an intrinsic part of this country and we are proud to be united with the PRCA in its future,” said George Greenberg, chairman and chief executive officer of HorseTV Media Group. “Another key dimension of our relationship with the PRCA is the opportunities for joint promotional efforts that will serve to achieve the marketing aims of both our companies,” he added.
Jason Adams, the Vice President for Economic Development and Jim Nichols, Director of Rodeo Administrations for the PRCA, have joined the program development committee of The Horse Channel’s Advisory Board.
