QSi Signs up Two Major Sponsors for Gulf Cup
Only two months after winning the Marketing Rights to the 17th Gulf Cup for the very first time, QSi, the QNOC’s Marketing Department, has bagged two major sponsorships.
At a double signing ceremony held in the prestigious QNOC HQ building in Doha, leading regional bank, ‘Commercialbank’ and major Qatari company ‘Qatar Navigation’ yesterday announced their partnerships with QSi for the 17th Gulf Cup, a major pan Gulf, multi-sports event to be held in Doha 10-29 December this year.
Representing Commercialbank, was Mr Mohammed Mandani, Deputy GM whilst Qatar Navigation were represented by Mr Khalifa Saqer Al Hitmi their GM. Fronting for QSi was Mr Khalifa Al Subaey, Executive Director and his deputy Mr Mubarak Al Muhanaddi, who is also Office Director of the President of the QNOC.
Whilst the Gulf Cup has been running for over thirty years & was last held in Doha in 1992, this year’s event is set to be something 'very special'. For the first time ever, eight nations will compete with Yemen & Iraq joining the six GCC national teams. This brings some 80 million consumers into the target market for visionary event partners such as Commercialbank & Qatar Navigation. Moreover with an eye on future major sports events upcoming in Doha, the event has been repackaged into a multi-sports event with Basketball, Volleyball & Handball joining the national soccer teams competing for national pride in Doha.
Commenting for Commercialbank, Mr Mohammed Mandani affirmed the bank’s confidence in QSi stating - 'Given Commercialbank’s earlier positive sponsorship of QSi2004 in April & the strong positive regional profile inherent in association with the 17th Gulf Cup, the bank found it easy to be the first to say yes! We see strong synergistic value for the bank in its regional & national campaigns, including community related projects and opportunity to further enhance our strong association with sport.'
For Qatar Navigation, Mr Khalifa Sager Al Hitmi endorsed his company’s decision to associate themselves for the second time to a QSi marketed event – 'Following our initial contribution to sports development in Qatar with QSi at QSi 2002, we are proud to confirm our contribution to this major Doha based sport event, the 17th Gulf Cup. We believe it will considerably enhance our international profile in a positive way in line with our strategy for growth beyond Qatar’s borders.'
Key to QSi’s success in securing such prestigious partners, was the early award of the host broadcasting TV rights to Al Jazeera Sports TV. This fledgling Doha based channel is fast carving out a significant niche for itself in the Arab speaking world for high quality sports coverage as witnessed with their recent coverage of Euro2004 tournament. With a footprint of over 300 million potential viewers, this pan Gulf sports event will be sure to gain maximum attention amongst fans passionately supporting their national teams. QSi’s event partners are therefore well placed to capitalize upon this unrivalled international coverage of a Gulf Cup tournament.
For QSi, Mr Mubarak Al Muhanadi, said that he 'was very proud to have secured these major sponsors to the 17th Gulf Cup for Qatar & QSi, several months out from the event. However, our task is only just begun & our team continues to work professionally to develop meaningful partnerships with a wide range of international & regional companies to mutual benefit. I am confident that this will see other visionary brands partner with QSi in the near future.'
QSi is the QNOC’s sports business development department & was awarded the marketing rights to the Gulf Cup at QSi 2004, the annual sports business event in Asia. Doha is the home of the 15th Asian Games in 2006.
