Quokka Launches New Golf.com Website

Golf - 27 Feb 2001

Golf.com, a joint venture of Quokka Sports, Inc. and NBC Sports, today announced the launch of the newly redesigned Golf.com site. The revamped site includes new interactive features, enhanced navigation, a striking new design and more integrated programming with NBC as Golf.com brings fans a fresh perspective on the coverage of golf. The site's first tournament feature this year will kick off March 1 with coverage of the PGA TOUR'S 'Southern Swing,' the first 5 tournaments of NBC's 2001 golf season, beginning with the Genuity Classic from the famed Doral Golf Resort.

Golf.com provides fans with comprehensive coverage of the game of golf, major golf events and the players. Using a wide range of digital assets, including video, text, audio, and images, Golf.com delivers compelling content. The new features and look of Golf.com will help bring fans even closer to the heart of the action and keep them entertained longer. Features designed to increase golf fans' experiences 'inside the ropes' include:

*Fresh design and new format, with enhanced readability, faster download and simplified navigation.

*Improved imagery, including exclusive photos and picture shows.

*CourseViewers: Providing complete information about tournament courses, including hole layout, green dimensions, pin placements and some video fly-overs.

*Instruction: Offering unique instruction tips and expert biomechanical analysis from ModelGolf.

*Scoreboard and Statistics: Up-to-the-minute results and statistics.

*Expert Commentary: Reports and viewpoints from NBC golf commentators as well as other high profile analysts.

*Course Information: In-depth information on tournament courses.

*Pro Shop: eShopping through a partnership with The Golf Warehouse, offering one of the Internet's most comprehensive sources for golf equipment, apparel and accessories.

*New features for women's golf fans: Expanded tournament and instructional content from Golf for Women Magazine and expert commentary from pro player Kellee Booth.

The other Tour events to be covered on Golf.com in March as part of the 'Southern Swing' are the Honda Classic in Coral Springs, Florida, the Bay Hill Invitational in Orlando, Florida, The Players Championship in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida and the BellSouth Classic in Duluth, Georgia. Golf.com will be adding more features as the season moves towards some of the Tour's later events.

'We've taken the great base that Golf.com had built last year and have expanded the breadth and depth of the coverage. The look and feel of our redesigned site brings new enhancements to event coverage we think will thrill golf fans and increase the value of their entertainment. While other sites provide great news and information, our interactive media approach will offer online experiences that are second to none this tournament season,' said Mike Shapiro, Quokka Sports' General Manager, Golf.

For the 2001 season, Golf.com will feature expanded and enhanced features that are synchronized with NBC's televised tournament coverage. Converged features include:

*Featured NBC Analysts: Great golf commentary from Gary Koch

*Pro Tips: Instructional tips from Championship player and NBC commentator Johnny Miller as featured on NBC golf telecasts

*ModelGolf Instruction: Key play swing analysis as shown on television will be found online and archived for future use

*NBC and CNBC Television schedules

*'As Seen On TV' features such as player biographies, picture shows and analysis coordinated with the events as they unfold on NBC's tournament coverage

*Content Partnership with MSNBC: MSNBC's news and information to be integrated into Golf.com

'Golf.com's new design is a great way to kick off this tournament season. NBC Sports award-winning coverage of golf will be enhanced this year by expanding our synchronization with Golf.com's online coverage. By converging television coverage with online features, commentary and analysis, we are continuing to offer the best sport experiences for fans today, said Ken Schanzer, President, NBC Sports.
