Badminton Power House of Denmark

Badminton - 24 May 2010

Denmark is among the leading nations of the world in badminton and has been so for many years.

- The selection of Denmark to host the world’s best badminton tournament in Europe’s badminton power house number one is an obvious choice, says Charlotte Malmroes, CEO, The Badminton Association of Denmark.

- We are extremely happy and satisfied that we have been selected to host a Premier Super Series tournament. We are looking very much forward to welcoming the world’s greatest badminton players in Denmark where they will meet to compete for honour and huge prizes in a new and prestigious Grand Slam tournament, continues Charlotte Malmroes.

The Badminton Association of Denmark has been selected by the Badminton World Federation to host one of the five attractive Premier Super Series, which will take place from 2011, and are expected to attract the attention of many hundred millions of TV viewers. We were selected among such great badminton nations as the United Kingdom, China, Korea and Indonesia.

A Premier Super Series is especially attractive both because the world’s top ten players in all categories have committed themselves to take part in the tournament and because the winners’ prizes are substantial. This makes these five tournaments the largest tournaments of the season. The CEO of the Badminton Association of Denmark is also pleased that one of the tournaments will take place in Denmark:

- It is very important for Danish badminton that we can present the greatest players of the world. It opens up new possibilities of promoting Danish badminton, badminton globally, our country and last, but not least, Danish companies internationally.

- It is very important for us that the spectators and the TV viewers have the chance to see Danish top players play on their home ground against the world’s best players. Our role as a host also gives us the opportunity to let our talented young players gain international experience. Danish spectators can look forward to watching world class players as well as the upcoming stars in one and the same tournament, says Charlotte Malmroes, CEO, Badminton Denmark. She continues:

Sport Event Denmark has already given its consent to bear a portion of the additional costs of financing the prizes of US$ 400.000 in all, which we welcome gratefully.

- Danish badminton enjoys great worldwide recognition and so does Denmark as an event nation. It is a perfect match and we are happy that this flagship of an event can be added to the long list of great events in Denmark in the years to come, says Lars Lundov, CEO, Sport Event Denmark.
