RLIF: Tri-Nations Tournament Has a Future

Rugby league - 24 Nov 2004

Following their meeting in Leeds, United Kingdom today (Tuesday), the RLIF Executive Board agreed the following:-

The Tri-Nations Tournament will take place again.

Details of further scheduling, location and timing will be confirmed when a full consultation with all relevant tournament partners and stake holders has been completed.

A full review and evaluation of the current successful tournament will be undertaken as part of this process.

Colin Love, the Chairman of the Rugby League International Federation, said: 'With approaching 180,000 people attending matches (including the Final) in the Gillette Tri-Nations Tournament, all pre-event expectations have been easily surpassed.

'We have a concept that has captured the attention of fans and players alike and now have a very solid platform on which to build international Rugby League.

'We’ve seen established players demonstrate their qualities while at the same time the emergence of new, exciting young stars that will ensure that the international game has a vibrant future.

'The success of the current tournament, and the revenue it has generated, will also enable us to build on the progress we’ve so far achieved with the developing Rugby League nations'.

Today’s meeting also saw the RLIF continue their planning for the 2008 World Cup and the centenary of the Australian game.
