Scottish Rugby Secures Another Sponsorship Deal

Rugby union - 14 Jan 2003

Scottish Rugby is delighted to announce a new three-year six-figure sponsorship agreement with Carlsberg-Tetley.

Having agreed a substantial investment with the SRU, Tetley's will become the 'Official Beer Scotland Rugby' giving the brand exclusive rights within the game in Scotland.

The deal is a key part of a major investment in the Tetley's brand in Scotland and to compliment the sponsorship, a comprehensive media and poster campaign and competitions will be launched at the start of the RBS 6 Nations Championship. This will be based on Tetley's successful Rough/Smooth campaign and will see the Scotland logo appearing on cans of Tetley's.

Today at the launch were Scotland's very own Rough/Smooth duo Scott Murray and Simon Taylor.

David James, SRU Sponsorship Manager, said: 'This is a significant and exciting move forward for both the SRU and Carlsberg-Tetley. We have spent many months discussing a suitable strategy to meet our respective needs and are both delighted with the final result. Scottish Rugby will benefit in many ways from this new partnership. The value of the deal is substantial, as importantly, we have already seen a commitment from Tetley's to an extensive marketing campaign that will build the profile of Scottish rugby as well as drive home their association with the game. I am delighted to be able to continue working with Carlsberg-Tetley and look forward to an innovative and exciting three years.'

Tetley's brings with it impressive credentials and experience in sports sponsorships throughout the UK and is committed to developing strong associations at all levels of the adult game in Scotland.

Mark Bruce, Director of Sales, Carlsberg-Tetley Scotland, said: 'We are delighted to be able to become a partner of the SRU and work alongside them in building the profile of rugby in Scotland. Tetley's has a proven track record in rugby sponsorship and is committed to developing exciting and innovative campaigns that will benefit the sport at all levels.'
