Setanta Sports and Servecast launch Champions League Football over Broadband in Ireland and the US

Soccer - 15 Dec 2005

Setanta Sports, the leading international TV sports broadcaster and Servecast, Europe’s premier provider of new media sports broadcasting, today announced the launch of a new service to deliver live Champions League Football over the Internet for the first time ever in Ireland and the US. This broadband subscription service will offer fans in Ireland and the US access to live and archive footage of Champions League action over the Internet.

Using Servecast’s media delivery platform, Media Studio, Setanta will offer a broadband subscription service and provide US and Irish audiences with exclusive online Champions League Football content. Online subscribers will have access to a full range of interactive media content, including live and archive coverage of matches, video news bulletins, player interviews and exclusive online highlights.

The attraction of this new broadband service for Champions League is not only that it allows fans to have a richer sporting experience through access to exclusive video content, but also that they can access it whenever and wherever they want online.

Darach Deehan, CEO of Servecast, said: "With the advent of mass access to broadband and new media technologies both at home and at work, demand for such online broadcasting of sporting events is growing by the minute. The incredible popularity of the Champions League around the world means fans are demanding more access to online video footage irrespective of time or location."

Setanta will also offer an extensive range of rugby, football and other sports to Irish and US broadband subscribers, which will be available live and on an archive basis to subscribers to the service.

Speaking today, Leonard Ryan, Joint CEO of Setanta stated "We are delighted to launch the first ever broadband subscription service for Champions League Football in Ireland and the US.
