Showdown at The Breeders Crown Finals
—Undefeated Horse, Two Record-Setting Drivers Clash—
New Jersey takes its spot as the epicenter of Harness Racing when one of the sport’s premier events, the $4.7 million Breeders Crown Finals, are held at The Meadowlands in East Rutherford, New Jersey on Nov. 24.
This year, there’s lots of drama surrounding the races:
Will undefeated horse Donato Hanover, trained by Englishtown, NJ resident Steve Elliott, maintain his perfect 11-0 record?
Who will come out on top in the clash of the titans: all-time money winner John Campbell or the young superstar, 25-year old Tim Tetrick?
Hall of Fame driver John Campbell is $214,780 shy of reaching $250 million in lifetime purse earnings. The 52-year-old New Jersey resident counts six Hambletonian wins among the numerous records he has shattered during his career. He is the leading Breeders Crown driver with 41 trophies and $17 million in earnings.
Tim Tetrick broke the single-season record for money-earnings in a year on November 6, 2007 and needs 64 victories to surpass the mark of 1,077 victories in one year.
The Breeders Crown finals for 2- and 3-year-olds will be telecast live on TVG, horseracing's premier interactive television network, available in nearly 30 million households nationwide on DISH Network, DIRECTV and select cable systems. The events will also be broadcast live throughout the United States and Canada on Sirius Satellite Radio. Commentary will be provided by Dave Johnson, Bill Finley, and Bob Heyden. The program will air between 9 p.m. and 11 p.m. EDT.
There will be a press conference and luncheon to announce the draw for the Breeders Crown on Tues., Nov. 20. 12:30 pm at McLoone’s at Favorites, 3 Lafayette Road in Woodbridge. (732) 512-5000.
