Signature of agreement between FIVB and Seville for 2000 World Congress
H. E. Juan Antonio Samaranch, President of the
IOC, expressed his wishes for the success of the 27th World Congress of
the FÚdÚration Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) to be held in Seville,
on 2, 3, 4 August while attending the Signing Ceremony of the Agreement
between the FIVB, the City of Seville and the Spanish Volleyball
Federation, this Thursday at the FIVB Headquarters in Lausanne.
"I am proud and happy that after the success of the Olympics in Barcelona
'92, sport in Spain has become important, and the most important city of
Spain regarding sport is Seville, a city of great sports successes. I
congratulate FIVB for being an example for other International
Federations." he said, after Dr. RubÚn Acosta, FIVB President, H. E.
Alfredo Sßnchez MonteseirÝn, Mayor of Seville and President of the
Congress Organising Committee, and Mr. Miguel Angel Quintana, President of
the Spanish Volleyball Federation, appended their signatures on the
official document sealing the agreement.
"I am delighted that the World of Volleyball can soon gather in a city
representing a fantastic melting-pot and union of cultures such as
Seville" said President Acosta.
The Ceremony took place on the occasion of the FIVB Executive Committee
Meeting, in the presence of President Samaranch, and Mr. Jean-Jacques
Schilt, Mayor of Lausanne accompanied by two of his Counsellors.
The Spanish delegation also included Mr. Alfonso Seoane Yarza,
Vice-President of the Congress Organising Committee, Mr. Pablo de los
Santos, Sports Delegate of the City of Seville and Mr. Manuel Marchena
G¾mez, Director of the Seville Provincial Patronage of Tourism.
