Sky Bet Backs First UK Open Darts Championship Finals

Darts - 28 May 2003

Sky Bet will be sponsoring the inaugural UK Open Darts Championship Finals at the Reebok Stadium between May 30th and June 1st 2003, the PDC's fifth annual live televised event on Sky Sports.

The Sky Bet UK Open Finals will see the top 128 money earners in the UK Open Order of Merit come together to compete for £124,000 in prize money.

The Sky Bet UK Open Darts Championship will showcase the best professionals in the world alongside Laurel qualifiers and the best up and coming talent around.

With each round re-drawn, this 'FA Cup of Darts' will see the big guns come in at Round Three with the likes of world champion John ‘Darth Maple’ Part, ten times world champion Phil ‘The Power’ Taylor, Alan ‘The Ice Man’ Warriner, Peter Manley, Roland Scholten, Wayne Mardle and Ronnie ‘The Rocket’ Baxter among a host of professionals topping the bill.

Sky Sports will cover the event in its entirety with roving cameras and reporters able to transfer to a crucial match at a moment’s notice and a main stage which will be the sole focus of attention come Sunday’s quarter-finals, semi-final and final.

Eric Bristow and Soccer AM’s Helen Chamberlain will report from the floor, while Sky Sports’ ultimate commentary team of Sid Waddell, Dave Lanning and John Gwynne will provide their usual brand of darting insight.
