Snowsport GB Appoints Aura Sports and MTA Media to Sponsorship Role
London – December 11, 2004: Snowsport GB, the official governing body for snowsports in the UK, today announced that it had appointed Aura Sports as its exclusive third-party sponsorship agency for it’s principal properties of the British Alpine Ski Team, British Freestyle Ski Team and the British Snowboard Team. Aura Sports will work in conjunction with sports based PR and Marketing consultancy MTA Media.
The current British Alpine Ski and Snowboard Teams are regarded as the best that the UK has ever produced, with Chemmy Alcott and Alain Baxter already household names. While the British Snowboard team includes Zoe Gillings, the World number 1 ranked Boardercross rider, and Lesley McKenna. Both athletes are widely tipped to excel in both World Cup and Olympic Games.
Jason Cockburn, CEO of Snowsport GB says:
'We are very excited about the prospect of this relationship. Britain has always produced excellent snow sports athletes, but generally they have come through one at a time. Right now we have strength in depth and we feel that with the right commercial relationships in place this team can go to World Cup’s, World Championship and Olympic Games and compete on an even footing with the larger Alpine nations.'
'Aura Sports and MTA Media have impressed us with their professional approach, their knowledge of the market place and their understanding of the sport and the media that surrounds it. They also understand the levels and expectations that we have within Skiing and Snowboarding in the UK right now.'
Paul Wright MD of Aura Sports says:
'This agreement is a hugely exciting one for Aura Sports for many reasons. Snowsport GB has a brand new management and executive structure in place, which creates a great forward momentum and a will to make things happen. Allied to that that they have the best Ski and Snowboard team that the Britain has ever produced.'
'While Aura as a company has made its name in the digital arena, as individuals we have all worked across many different marketing and sponsorship disciplines, so this is a natural step for us as a company to expand our offer to our clients and partners.'
Mark Thursfield of MTA Media adds;
'We are setting out to offer something new to traditional sponsorship agreements, by building a marketing and a media relations strategy into the sponsorship at the front end. I think that most of us can recall potentially good campaigns that failed to deliver for the sponsor due to the lack of a clear communications strategy around the property. That is something we want to safeguard against from the outset by making sure that Snowsport GB, the team and the sponsor get the desired outcome from their association.'
The British Land Alpine Ski Team consists of 15 athletes, 5 of who are currently competing in the FIS World Cup, while the British Snowboard Team has 5 athletes competing on the World Cup circuit.
