Softball Australia Elects New President
Softball Australia has a new President following the election of Darryl Clout at its 2000 Annual General Meeting.
Mr Clout succeeds Miss Rosemary Adey OAM who held the position since 1982.
Miss Adey has a long and distinguished career as a Player, Coach and Administrator. Her contribution to the advancement of Softball in Australia has been honored with the award of the Medal of the Order of Australia (1986), Life Membership of the Federation (1989) and induction as a member of the Softball Australia – Hall of Fame (1991).
In 1993 Miss Adey was elected as Vice-President of the International Softball Federation – Oceania Region, and was inducted into the International Softball Federation Hall of Fame in 1997.
Sydney based Mr Clout is only the third President in Softball Australia’s 54 year existence.
Praising the outgoing President, Mr Clout said, 'Rosemary has made a significant contribution to Softball in Australia over a long period and has gained the respect of both the National and International Softball communities. On behalf of those communities I would like to thank her for that contribution.'
Mr Clout is looking forward to the new challenge his election will bring.
'It is a tremendous honor and a tremendous role with many challenges. With the legacy the Olympic Games has left us we must go forward.'
Mr Clout was elected to the Australian Softball Federation Board in 1997. In 1996 he was appointed as an Executive Member of the New South Wales Softball Association.
He was State Administrator for NSW Under 16 Boys (1991) and Open Men (1993) and National Administrator at the Open Men’s New Zealand Tour (1995/96), World Championship (1996) and Trans Tasman Men’s Fastpitch Softball Challenge (1999).
Mr Clout has also served as Coach, Statistician and Manager with Arncliffe Scots, Sydney City Comets and Hondas Softball Clubs in New South Wales.
He is the Senior Advisor to the Minister for Sport & Recreation and Fair Trading in the NSW Government and is also a member of the Australian Society of Sports Administrators.
Three other Board Members were also up for re-election, with Phil Matthewson (WA) and Binny Willis (QLD) successful.
Harvey Milson (NSW) replaced Mike McDermid, who had been a member of the Board for 14 years.
Mr Clout’s election to the position of President has left a vacancy on the Board. Nominations will be called over the next seven days.
In other news, Mrs Shirley Schneider, Vice President of Western Australian Softball Association was awarded Life Membership for her outstanding contribution to Softball in Australia and Ms Joyce Lester was inducted into Softball Australia’s Hall of Fame.
Ms Lester began her international Softball career in 1997. She participated in five ISF World Fast Pitch Championships and was an integral member of the 1996 Olympic Bronze Medal Team in Atlanta.
Ms Lester retired from competition at the conclusion of the Atlanta Games.
