Sportcal Announces Launch Of The Major Sports Events Guide 2008-2018

Multi-sport games - 29 Apr 2008

Bidding for and hosting major sports events is now big business.

To take just one high-profile example, in January 2008, Chen Gang, vice mayor of the Beijing municipal government, announced that the total investment for all 31 venues in Beijing (there are seven elsewhere) for the 2008 Olympic Games was about Yn13 billion ($1.85 billion), including Yn3.5 billion for the National Stadium alone.

Sportcal’s latest publication, The Major Sports Events Guide 2008-2018, provides detailed analysis on a wide variety of forthcoming major world and continental championships, cups, finals, multi-sport games and significant series.

Information is provided on 100 sporting events from over 50 different sports. The guide offers a snapshot of a selection of major sports events worldwide, showcasing both previous events and giving crucial, hard-to-find information on future bidding opportunities.

The publication will be supported by a major redevelopment of Sportcal’s Bidding service into a more in-depth “Events” service that will cover all aspects of bidding, the delivery and legacy of sports events.

The Major Sports Events Guide 2008-2018 will also be available through this new service in an online version and will be fully searchable, covering a wider variety of events and in more detail. The online version will be constantly updated with all the latest information on each event.

This is an essential guide, whether you are a broadcaster planning your event coverage for the next decade or a city considering which events you might bid for in the future.

The publication is available free to all Sportcal subscribers courtesy of the publications’ sponsors, to which Sportcal offers its sincere thanks: Aon; Getty Images; Perform; Volvo Ocean Race; and The World Games 2009 Kaohsiung.

Sportcal would also like to thank the many sports federations, event owners and other sports organisations that provided the data upon which the guide is based.

Sports organisations wishing to include their events in future editions of the guide, or on the online service, should contact Sportcal with their information.
