Sunset & Vine to Produce Class 1 Powerboat TV Coverage

Powerboating - 08 Mar 2001

Sunset + Vine Productions, one of the largest producers of sports programming in the UK, has been appointed by Offshore Sport Promotion, promoter of the Class 1 World Offshore Championship, as the official television production company for the 2001 season.

The successful bid to produce and distribute Class 1 adds the world’s ultimate water sports series to Sunset + Vine’s already impressive portfolio of sporting coverage which includes cricket, football, horseracing, American national league football, hockey and baseball.

Sunset + Vine’s innovative and creative approach to sports television production, highlighted by its coverage of test match cricket, last year earned it seven of the most prestigious awards in televised sports including a BAFTA for best sports’ coverage and two RTS Television Sports Awards. Sunset + Vine delivers over 1800 hours of programming annually and is a major supplier to Channel 4, Channel 5 and the BBC. Its ‘flagship’ weekly magazine show Gillette World Sport Special is the most widely distributed sports programme in the world reaching 220 broadcasters in 203 countries and an estimated audience of 400 million viewers.

'Sunset + Vine’s reputation for delivering top quality sports programming speaks for itself and we are excited to have such a sports specialist producing our television programming,' said Nathan Knight, Managing Director, Offshore Sport Promotion. 'Its ability to produce creative sports programming has earned numerous awards and we are confident that the combination of Sunset + Vine’s production skills and Class 1’s unrivalled imagery will ensure that the coverage of powerboat racing will reach new audiences.'

The challenge of applying their production skills to powerboat racing and bringing the excitement, power and glamour of the sport to the screens is one that Sunset + Vine’s Managing Director, Jeff Foulser looks forward to. 'We consider this to be the start of an important new era in television for Class 1 and we are delighted to be involved. I am sure that our diverse production experience will enable us to bring a fresh approach and dynamic new look to what is undoubtedly a very dramatic sport.'

This season thirteen boats will contest the nine-race U.I.M. Class 1 World Offshore Championship at venues across Europe, Asia and the Middle-East. The first race of the 2001 World Championship kicks off with the Italian Grand Prix in Trieste on June 3.
