THE 1999 ETU TRIATHLON TOUR TAKES OFF IN STUTTGART !

Triathlon - 12 May 1999

Stuttgart/GER: the 1999 European Triathlon Tour is ready for take-off, and this time with a very special race, the Top 4 Tour. This event comprises 4 races, at 4 different venues, in and around Stuttgart. First day of racing will be Thursday, 13.5., with a 18km team time trial on the bike in Geislingen. Friday features a swim-run competition in
Stuttgart, Saturday follows with a triathlon in Waiblingen, and the great final takes place on Sunday, with a duathlon in Aidlingen.

The very interesting thing about this Top 4 Tour is, that only teams can take part in the competition - composed of 4 men or 3 women but an individual ranking is also done every day and for the overall competition. This individual overall ranking will finally determine the points for the European Cup.

The start-list reads like the 'who is who' in triathlon, and underlines the great interest from the athletes side in such events, but also the superb work of the organisers, and the value of the ETU label. The number of teams exploded from 26 in 1998 to 40 in 1999, and has now
almost reach the upper possible level.

31 male teams and 9 female teams will be vying for the 60.000 DEM prize purse, and it is to be expected, that the fights will be hot. On the list of the favourites on the men's side:
- Team Cube (Dirk Bockel, Markus Forster, Roland Knoll, Martin Krnavek, Marc Pschebizin)
- Team Henniez (Andrew Johns, Markus Keller, Reto Hug, Pierre-Alain Frossard)
- Team Henniez II (Christoph Mauch, Peter Alder, Roger Fischlin, Stephan Szekeres)
- PowerBar Team (Rainer M³ller-H÷rner, Lothar Leder, Stefan Holzner, Cameron Widoff)
- PowerBar Team (Ralph Eggert, Jan Hansen, Christian Weimer, Arnd Schomburg)
- Hansgrohe Team (Holger Lorenz, Michael Brucker, Norman Stadler, Wolfgang M³ller) - Team International (Bevan Docherty, Ryan Carter, Chris Leigh, Ralph Zeetsen)
- Team Sweden (Jonas Colting, Bj÷rn Andersson, Anders Nilsson, Joachim Axelson)

and on the women's side:
- Team Allgõu Hai (Uli Blank, Joelle Franzmann, Barbara K÷sser)
- PZM Team SC Riederau (Kathrin Egger, Susi Habiger, Mieke Suys)
- Team Arena Europe (Anja Dittmer, Lisbeth Kristensen, Delphine Pelletier, Nicola Spirig)
- Tria Echterdingen (Nicole Mertes, Ute Schõfer, Susanne Renn)
- Sparda Bank Team (Simone Haberer, Susanne Niemeyer, Ute M³ckel)

But who knows a lot can happen during a team competition, and over 4 days.

High drama and interesting races in prospect !

Results will be available daily. Please visit also the ETU homepage www.etu.org
