Third Sponsor Signs up for Gulf Cup

Multi-sport games - 15 Jul 2004

Only yesterday, QSi the sports business development & marketing department of the Qatar National Olympic Committee signed its first two sponsors for the 17th Gulf Cup. Today it chalked up a ‘Hat Trick’ of sponsors in one week, when ‘Doha Insurance Company’ joined QSi’s 'Winning Gulf Cup Team'.

Just over two months after winning the Marketing Rights to the 17th Gulf Cup for the very first time, QSi is demonstrating its commercial ability to secure quality partnerships from companies who understand the benefits of associating themselves with this important pan-Arab, multi-sports event, through QSi.

At a signing ceremony held in the prestigious new QNOC HQ building in Doha, one of the regions most dynamic insurance companies, ‘Doha Insurance Company’ announced its support for the 17th Gulf Cup to be held in Doha 10-29 December this year.

Representing Doha Insurance, was Mr Adil Ali bin Ali, Managing Director, whilst QSi was represented by Mr Khalifa Al Subaey, Executive Director and his deputy Mr Mubarak Al Muhanaddi, who is also Office Director of the President of the QNOC.

This year’s Gulf Cup, features for the first time ever, eight nations with Yemen & Iraq joining the six GCC national teams. With some 80 million consumers in these countries, visionary companies have been quick to embrace this important sporting event which delivers unrivalled reach to regional consumers. Al Jazeera Sports TV, a channel launched only late last year, will show the event live throughout much of the Arabic speaking world and beyond.

This year’s Gulf Cup has been uniquely repackaged into a multi-sports event with the inclusion of national teams from Basketball, Volleyball & Handball, joining their colleagues in soccer, to compete for national pride, in Doha, the 'Asian Sporting Capital' which hosts the Asian Games in 2006.

Mr Ali bin Ali, commenting for Doha Insurance Company, stated, 'Whilst this is our first association with QSi, we have noted their track record in sourcing and delivering quality, international events in Doha, such as top flight soccer with t

likes of AC Milan & Bayern Munich, World Record breaking running, racing Ferraris & music events. We are confident in our partner QSi; moreover we understand the very strong & positive regional promotional opportunity available to us by association with the 17th Gulf Cup. This will considerably enhance our regional awareness and support our strategy for growth throughout the region.'

According to industry sources, the early award of the host broadcasting TV rights to Al Jazeera Sports TV was key in QSi’s successful strategy of developing valuable partnerships. The channel was recently praised for its exclusive & high quality coverage of the Euro2004 soccer tournament. With a footprint of over 300 million potential viewers, this pan Gulf sports event will be sure to gain maximum attention amongst regional fans passionately supporting their national teams.

For QSi, Mr Mubarak Al Muhanadi, said that 'this week has seen the fruit of our professional efforts over the last two months to develop a major sponsorship strategy, from scratch. It clearly demonstrates our growing capabilities in a wide range of sports business sectors. As I said yesterday, our task has only just begun but our professional team continues to work diligently to develop partnerships with a wide range of international & regional companies to mutual benefit. Whilst I cannot promise a ‘hat trick every week’, I am confident that other visionary brands will similarly see the professionalism of our strategy & the benefits of this major regional sporting property, by partnering with QSi very soon.'

QSi is the QNOC’s sports business development department & marketing department was awarded the marketing rights to the 17th Gulf Cup at ‘QSi 2004’, the unique annual sports business event in Asia, held in Doha in April. With one of the world’s most dynamic economies, Qatar’s capital city Doha, has become the Asian Sporting Capital, delivering a wide range of quality sporting events and hosting the biggest yet, the 15th Asian Games in December.
