Tripartite Joint Venture Established for Operation, Broadcasting and Marketing Rights Business of the FIBA World Championship 2006
The FIBA World Championship 2006 is the most prestigious basketball event for men to decide the champion from the 212 nations and regions worldwide that belong to FIBA. The first World Championship was played in 1950 in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and has been organized every four years between Olympics.
The FIBA World Championship 2006, which marks the 15th round of the Championship, will be held at five cities in Japan for 16 days between the 19th of August and 3rd of September, 2006. This event will be the first Championship in Asia since it was held in Manila, Philippines 28 years ago in 1976, and of course the first in Japan. Also, as the number of participating teams will be increased from 16 to 24, the event will produce a greater surge of interest throughout the world.
The Joint Venture has been established to allow each of the three parties to efficiently operate the event and also conduct the broadcasting and marketing rights business as well as the FIBA Silver Global Sponsor rights business until 2008 in close cooperation so as to smoothly implement the Championship.
