TWI in Deal to Produce Cricket Tour Coverage in West Indies
TWI has agreed a five-year deal with Sky Sports to produce
West Indies international cricket.
Sky Sports holds the live rights to England's tour of the
West Indies next spring and has an arrangement with the West Indies Cricket Board to distribute their rights.
Starting with the England Tour of the Caribbean in 2004, TWI
will provide production facilities and crew for all live coverage from the West Indies.
As well as providing Sky Sports with their outside broadcast
material, TWI will also produce the 'world feed' for each of the two annual international tours to the Caribbean - totalling six Tests and ten one-day internationals, or up to 360 hours of live television, each season - until 2008.
Simon Wheeler TWI's Head of Cricket Production comments, 'We
at TWI are delighted to continue our 13 year relationship with BSkyB and West Indies Cricket.
'We first worked with Sky and the West Indies in 1990 - on
the first England overseas tour covered live on British television - and have enjoyed a first class relationship with the West Indies team, the Board and Sky Sports ever since.'
'Coverage of a Caribbean tour is a large operation; we will
take 40 personnel, 20 tons of equipment and 4 miles of cable to provide the 25-camera coverage that Sky Sports demand. But it's a scale we are used to and the quality we like to provide.'
Barney Francis, executive producer for cricket at Sky
Sports, said: 'TWI work well with our production team and commentators, they know and understand our requirements and standards, and they deliver every time. Live tours from the Caribbean are a highlight of our cricket coverage - this will be our third - and the infrastructure that TWI provide ensures that we can give our subscribers the depth and detail of coverage they deserve.'
Sky Sports exclusive live coverage of England's tour of the
West Indies begins in March 2004. The two Test nations will play four Test matches, starting at Kingston on 11th March, and seven one-day internationals, starting in Georgetown on 18th April.
