UK to Get First-ever All-professional Polo League
2004 sees the launch of polo’s most exciting new development, the British Polo Championship. To be played over consecutive weekends from May to July, it will be Britain’s first ever all-professional polo league.
The venture has been designed for television, with the aim to produce programmes that combine the highlights of the weekend’s action alongside features, celebrity interviews and a guide to Polo, all designed to bring this fast-growing sport to a wider audience.
The concept has been created by British Polo Enterprises, and has the endorsement of the Hurlingham Polo Association, the sport’s governing body, and the support of the British Association of Professional Polo Players. British Polo Enterprises has retained sponsorship marketing agency SBI to help develop and market the property.
Nigel à Brassard, Director of British Polo Enterprises, explained: 'We are confident that the time is right for this new tournament. Interest in polo is growing fast, and more brands are recognising that polo provides access to an affluent audience that is hard to reach through traditional media channels.'
'As well as television coverage, the tournament offers exceptional hospitality benefits and we also hope to announce soon the involvement of some high-profile ‘ambassadors’ for the British Polo Championship. We have been very encouraged by the interest shown so far.'
