WADA Signs Agreement for Clearinghouse Computer System

27 Jul 2004

Montreal, July 26, 2004- The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) announced today that it has signed an agreement with eSys Medical of Montreal to develop the Anti-Doping Administration and Management System (ADAMS). ADAMS will be a web-based system consisting of three main modules: whereabouts management, clearinghouse functionality, and a doping control database.

Under the World Anti-Doping Code, WADA was tasked with creating such a system to assist its stakeholders with better implementation of the Code. The whereabouts management module will allow for better collection and sharing of athletes’ whereabouts information for doping control purposes. ADAMS will enable athletes and anti-doping organizations to update whereabouts information via the web on a regular basis.

The clearinghouse will be a central repository for anti-doping information, including tests and approved therapeutic use exemptions. It serves as a mechanism to ensure that all anti-doping initiatives are carried out in a transparent manner.

The doping control database will provide a mechanism to assist anti-doping agencies to commence the coordination of their testing programs. The database will help with planning, coordination and distribution of doping control tests.

'ADAMS is a crucial part of WADA’s obligations under the Code,' said David Howman, WADA’s director general. 'We are pleased to have found a partner in eSys Medical that will allow us to deliver a quality product to our stakeholders that will assist them in their ongoing efforts to keep sport free of doping.'

ADAMS is expected to be ready for implementation by stakeholders by early 2005.

eSys Medical, a Montreal–based company known for its InjuryZone(TM) product suite, brings to WADA more than 17 years experience in the healthcare industry and virtually a decade dedicated to developing and delivering leading edge technology for global sports organizations world-wide. InjuryZone is a web-based athlete health information management system that allows for the confidential storage and exchange of critical athlete information in real time, over a secure web connection.
