WADA to Meet to Approve List of Prohibited Substances

Montreal, September 9, 2004 – The Executive Committee of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) will meet Tuesday, September 21 in Montreal for the second time this year.

At the meeting, Executive Committee members will approve the 2005 List of Prohibited Substances and Methods, which will be published October 1, 2004, and will go into effect January 1, 2005.

Other topics to be discussed by the Committee include WADA’s draft budget for 2005; development of the Anti-Doping Administration and Management System (ADAMS); the latest updates on the International Convention Against Doping in Sport, which is being drafted under the auspices of UNESCO; and the Agency’s activities at the Olympic Games in Athens in August. Committee members will also be updated on other WADA activities in the areas of research, testing and education.

Several events have been organized for the media in relation to this meeting.

At 10:30 a.m. Montreal time, WADA’s President Richard W. Pound will discuss the topics to be addressed at the Executive Committee meeting and will respond to journalists’ questions during a teleconference.

Journalists from North America who wish to participate in the teleconference should, before 10:30 a.m. Montreal time, call 1-800-377-5794. Media representatives from other regions of the world should send an email, prior to September 16 at 6:00 p.m. Montreal time, to frederic.donze@wada-ama.org with the number where they wish to be contacted for the teleconference. WADA will initiate the call to media in regions of the world outside North America.

9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.: Meeting of the WADA Executive Committee
Place: WADA’s headquarters, Stock Exchange Tower, Montreal

This meeting is not open to the media.

3:00 p.m.: Press conference following the Executive Committee Meeting. (The time is subject to change depending on the conclusion of the meeting.)
Place: WADA’s headquarters, Stock Exchange Tower (17th floor), Montreal.
