Where is Football Going? Foreign Ownership for a Global Game
Where is Football going? Foreign Ownership for a Global Game
Soccerex are delighted to announce that Amanda Staveley and David Dein will be participating on a panel entitled ‘Where is Football going? Foreign Ownership for a Global Game’ at Soccerex 2008 this November in Gauteng, South Africa.
Amanda Staveley is the senior partner of private equity firm PCP Capital Partners. She has been recently heralded as one of the most powerful women in Football after successfully brokering Abu Dhabi United Group’s shock multi million pound takeover of Manchester City. As an advisor to the Dubai International Capital (DIC) she was chosen to lead negotiations in their proposed takeover bid of Liverpool FC. Staveley values the glamour of British football and has been reported as saying "We should be very proud of our football, everyone wants to invest here." At Soccerex 2008, Staveley will draw upon her experiences of cultivating business contacts in the Emirates and the rest of the world over the past decade, to reveal her thoughts on why football clubs are sparking so much interest from across the globe.
During his already illustrious career, David Dein has held a number of high profile positions including vice-chairman of Arsenal and vice-chairman of the Football Association. Whilst at Arsenal, Dein was responsible for football matters at the club taking an active role in the transfer of players and contract negotiations where he was able to use his extensive network of football contacts. He has always shown a great interest in the global game and has been intrinsic in injecting foreign influence into English football by successfully bringing Arsène Wenger and Sven-Göran Eriksson to England. Dein will use his extensive knowledge and experiences to address delegates at Soccerex about this recent emergence of foreign influence and its effects on both clubs and national teams.
Foreign owners are particularly attracted by the advertising value of Premier League clubs, whose matches are broadcast in more than 200 countries. Clubs have become brands in their own right, and any business or product that becomes synonymous with a club can gain massive global exposure and name recognition. Indeed with 8 out of the 20 Premier League clubs already under foreign ownership, including heavyweights Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool and Aston Villa it is clear that the recent trend in foreign ownership is an issue right at the forefront of the global football community.
‘Where is Football going? Foreign Ownership for a Global Game’ is just one of the topics to be covered in Soccerex's diverse programme of conference panels. Soccerex 2008 is the leading business convention for football worldwide taking place on 23-26 November, Gauteng Province, South Africa.
