FilmNova aims to make a splash with new World Triathlon commission
World Triathlon, the sport’s international governing body, has partnered with UK production company FilmNova and broadcast graphics specialist MOOV to enhance live coverage of its major events.
It was announced today that, following a competitive selection process, FilmNova has been appointed by the World Triathlon executive board to develop innovative new solutions for the linear and digital broadcasting of races.
In the first place, FilmNova will work on all events in this year’s World Triathlon Championship Series, with the aim of delivering “professional and slick coverage” and “to enable the races to reach their maximum potential and increase the reach”.
FilmNova will be accompanied by MOOV, its graphics partner for over a decade, as the two companies seek to raise the standard of coverage of triathlon to new levels.
The World Triathlon Championship Series gets under way in Yokohama on 15 May, with events to be shown by television networks around the world and on digital platform TriathlonLIVE.tv.
FilmNova has previously worked on World Triathlon events in the UK, and this year has been commissioned by the Professional Triathletes Organisation to be the host broadcaster of the Collins Cup, the new Ryder Cup-style team competition in Slovakia in August.
Hailing the new appointment, Marisol Casado, the president of World Triathlon, said: “The broadcast, digital and graphics landscape is constantly evolving, and we are delighted to be working with two companies consistently at the front of that evolution.
“We are always looking for new ways to bring the excitement of live racing to those watching at home and on smartphones and tablets, and these two companies will be able to add new layers to the live broadcasts that will entertain and inform both our current audiences and those coming to triathlon for the first time.”
Phil Sibson, Managing Director of FillmNova, said: “We are delighted to be provided the opportunity to help World Triathlon develop coverage of the World Triathlon Championship Series. We believe there has never been a better time to grab hold of a broader, growing and more engaged audience and we are relishing working with World Triathlon to enhance the coverage and bring innovation and consistency.”
FilmNova is the TV production arm of the Great Run Company, the organiser of mass-participation events in the UK headed up by former Great Britain track athlete Sir Brendan Foster, and delivers live coverage of the Great North Run for the BBC and the Great Manchester Run and Para sport coverage for Channel 4.
At this year's Olympic Games in Tokyo the company will be the OBS host broadcaster for rowing and canoe sprint events.
Its previous experience includes the 2017 World Athletics Championships in London, the 2018 World Athletics Indoor Championships in Birmingham and the open water swimming events at the 2018 European Championships in Glasgow.
