Pereira appointed to lead virtual sports at the IOC

Sport - 14 Jan 2022
Author: Phoebe Street

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has appointed Vincent Pereira as its head of virtual sport.

In the position, newly created as part of the IOC's Olympic Agenda 2020+5 roadmap, Pereira will "contribute to developing virtual sport and to further engaging with videogaming communities".

Part of that will entail leading on planning and delivery of the Olympic Virtual Series, which debuted in 2021.

Pereira brings over 10 years of experience to the role, having previously served as the global head of digital at Amaury Sport Organisation (ASO), as well as held other roles at Microsoft France and Auchan Retail International.

Kit McConnell, sports director at the IOC, said: “I am delighted to welcome Vincent Pereira to lead the IOC virtual sport team. He will help us leverage the growing popularity of virtual sport to promote the Olympic movement, the Olympic values and sports participation, and grow direct relations with young people.

“His broad experience in virtual sport, and digital strategies and activities, will be a great asset for the organization and the Olympic Movement.”
