WTT and Eclat in three-year southeast Asia broadcast deal

World Table Tennis (WTT), the commercial vehicle of the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF), has today entered into a three-year broadcast partnership across southeast Asia with Eclat Media Group, the Korean sports broadcasting company.
Eclat will put WTT action for the next three seasons on its SPOTV pay-television and streaming network exclusively in Brunei, Cambodia, Timor Leste, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, and Vietnam. In addition, it will cover the action non-exclusively in Macau and Thailand.
The broadcaster will cover all WTT events - including the World Table Tennis Championships - over the course of the deal, having first launched SPOTV across southeast Asia last October.
IMG, the international sports marketing agency, manages both the global distribution and sale of WTT broadcast rights and the TV production of the various events as part of a 15-year deal between the two struck in 2020 - the year in which WTT was launched.
The first part of the 2022 WTT calendar - featuring a new February event in Oman and an increased Asian focus in general - was unveiled earlier this week.

Last November, WTT struck a four-year deal in China with Migu, a subsidiary of state-owned telecoms company China Mobile.
Under the long-term agreement, Migu will become the exclusive media partner of WTT in China, with full media rights in both mainland China and Macau, as well as exclusive production rights using new technologies.
IMG’s long-term strategic partnership with WTT covers exclusive global media rights development and distribution, production oversight of WTT events, and betting data and streaming rights for its IMG Arena business. In addition, IMG has a non-exclusive sponsorship representation role and assists with the procurement of host cities for WTT events.
The ITTF’s new-look calendar now features annual series of Grand Smashes, WTT Cup Finals, WTT Champions Series, and WTT Contenders Series.

Last week, Eclat entered into a broadcast and digital rights deal with the Badminton World Federation (BWF).
Under the five-year agreement, Eclat has been granted exclusive live television and digital rights to the BWF World Tour and BWF Major Championships for its SPOTV platform in 12 territories across Asia.
