DAZN brings in Sarina from Barcelona as Spanish marketing head

Author: Euan Cunningham
DAZN, the international over-the-top sports subscription service, has named Alessio Sarina as its head of marketing in Spain, strengthening its leadership team in a key strategic market.

Sarina joins from Spanish soccer giants Barcelona, where for the last five years he has served as marketing director.

In total, he has over 20 years of experience in the industry, with this appointment coming shortly after that of Bosco Aranguren, the OTT service’s new general director in Spain.

Sarina has now said that he aims to “evolve the way in which fans live and enjoy sport on any of the devices from which they connect, enriching their experience.

He added: “The goal is that when fans think of sports, they instantly associate it with DAZN, and for that, we will have to … offer a different, unique, and innovative service.”

In Spain, DAZN has rights to multiple top-tier soccer properties, including the English Premier League, the UEFA Women’s Champions League, as well as South America’s Libertadores and Sudamericana cup competitions.

Across other sports, meanwhile, the OTT platform also covers motor racing’s Formula 1, motor cycling’s MotoGP, and boxing.

The last deal struck in that market by DAZN came in late April, when it snapped up Spanish rights to Professional Fighters League (PFL), the US-based mixed martial arts promotion, in an agreement also covering Japan.
